WOMEN OF THE BIBLE

This is a brief outline of the subject, including many unnamed women, some in the direct line to Christ.

EVE: Gen. 2-18/25 “Life Giver”, the Mother of humanity, and the most beautiful woman that ever walked on Earth, having come perfect from the Hand of GOD, taken from Adam’s side, to be his helpmate. Her seed, JESUS, would crush the serpent’s head (Satan). The command not to eat of the Tree of Knowledge was given to Adam, not Eve, Gen.2-17

4 UNNAMED WOMEN: Gen.6-18; the loyal wives of Noah & his 3 sons. What faithfulness as they stuck by their husbands

thru’ 40 years of opposition and scorn, incl. their own families. JESUS’ line comes thru’ the wives of Noah and Shem.

SARAI: Gen.11-29 meaning “dominative”; later GOD took an H out of His Name of YHWH, and changed it to SARAH,  meaning Princess, for she was to become the Mother of many nations. He did the same for Abram, to Abraham. Ch.17

Lot’s 2 DAUGHTERS-unnamed; Gen.19 bore from their father, Moab “of the Father” and BenAmmon “son of My people”; tho’ it was incest, their motive was honourable; both RUTH, a Moabitess, who married Boaz a type of Christ taking a Gentile Bride, (read the beautiful story in the book of RUTH) and NAAMAH, an Ammonitess, one of Solomon’s wives, who bore Rehoboam. 1 Kings 14-21, Matt.1-3/7, are in  JESUS line of descent.

GOD is no respecter of persons, JESUS came to save sinners, including us;  we must be careful how we judge others   .

REBEKAH: Abraham sent his servant to a far land to get a wife from his own people, as GOD did for His Own Son, Gen.24

When asked if she would be Isaac’s wife, Rebekah said “I will go”. Will you go with the Holy Spirit to be Christ’s Bride?

RACHEL; Jacob served 7 years for his beloved wife Rachel, Gen.29-15/20, then another 7 years.  JESUS also serves 7 years, 3-1/2 in His Gospel Ministry, 3-1/2 from Heaven,”The Day of Vengeance of GOD”, Isa.61-1/2,Luke 4-17/20 Rev.11

LEAH: tho’ foisted upon Jacob, the unwanted wife, yet the line comes through her 4th son, Judah. Gen. 29-35.

TAMAR:”a palm tree”. Played harlot to Judah to preserve his seed, bore Pharez and is in the direct line. Gen.38-6,v24/30

2 MIDWIVES: Valiantly defied Pharaoh’s decree to kill & saved the boy babies alive, hence Moses born. Ex.1-12/22, ch.2.

MIRIAM: Moses sister, who led the worship with timbrels & dancing after GOD drowned Pharoah’s host. Ex.15-1,19/21

RAHAB: a harlot who hid Joshua’s spies, and by covenant she & her house were saved by a red rope, which speaks of the Blood  of Jesus, Josh.2-  & 6-22/23. Rahab married Salman, father of Boaz, Ruth 4-21, Matt.1-5 and is in the direct line.

DEBORAH: Jud.4-4  a wise Judge of Israel, led the Army, in lieu of Barak, and sung the Song of Victory, & consequently

JAEL was “Blessed above Women”, and she, instead of Barak, enticed and slew Sisera, the enemy general, Jud.5-24/27

HANNAH: Beloved wife but childless; prayed for a son to be given to GOD; GOD heard & gave Samuel.1 Sam.1-9/11; v20

MICHAL:Saul’s daughter loved David, saved his life, but was later rejected; a sad story. 1 Sam.18-26/28;19-12; 2 Sam.6-23

ABIGAIL: 1 Sam.25-23/31 A beautiful and valiant  young  woman  who turned David from sin, and later became his wife.

BATHSHEBA: Seduced by David, who grievously sinned;  in mercy GOD forgave him & she bore Solomon. 2 Sam.11-2/21

THE SHULAMITE: “Peaceful, Perfect”. Song of Solomon; a beautiful & intimate picture of the love of Christ for an Earthly Bride. “The Rose of Sharon & the Lily of the Valley”. “Thou are all fair, My Love, there is no spot in thee”. Eph.5-27.

Ps.45-9/15 & Prov.31-10/31 tell about the King’s Daughter and the Virtuous Woman, both types of the Bride of Christ.

WIDOW OF ZAREPHATH: was miraculously fed daily, but didn’t believe ‘til Elijah raised her son from death. 1 Kings 17-8/24

SHUNAMMITE WOMAN: Elisha provided food for; they built a chamber for Elisha; later he raised her son. 2 Kings 4-1/37

ESTHER: A very beautiful submissive girl who became Queen & risked her life to save her people. Ch.4-16 Feast of Purim

LITTLE MAID: 2 Kings 5-1/14 One  of the most beautiful stories in the Bible; taken captive yet loved her mistress; she moved the arm of GOD to heal her master Naaman; how could GOD deny her faith? I think aged about 12, like another

LITTLE MAID Acts 12-13/15 who heard Peter’s voice; while the elders were praying for his release? She was expecting him to arrive; they didn’t believe, they said “you’re mad”, and were astonished when they found GOD had answered them!

“O ye of little faith” Are we any better? I love hearing of these two Little Maids, the first of whose name is unknown!.

Paul says in 2 Cor.6-9 “as unknown & yet well known”; we are known in Heaven and from there will come our rewards.

ELIZABETH: Luke 1-5/7; A barren woman who in old age (like Sarah) bore John the Baptist. “Fruit in old age”Ps.92-13/14

MARY: Mother of our LORD, said “Be it unto me according to Thy Word”; she magnified the LORD.”The Magnificat” Luke 1-26/56.   She told  the servants, “Whatsoever JESUS tells you to do, do it” John 2-1/5. She was indeed “highly favoured”.

MARY & MARTHA: tho’ Martha served while Mary sat & listened to JESUS, Martha showed more faith when Lazarus died; John 11-20/27, strongly expressing her faith, while Mary was overcome with grief & wept.v.31/33. But later on, after Lazarus had been raised from the dead, Mary anointed JESUS head and wiped His feet with her hair. John 12-3.

MARY MAGDALENE: out of whom went 7 devils Luke 8-2; saw JESUS at the Cross, & 1st after His Resurrection Jo.20-1/18

SYROPHENICIAN Woman: Matt.15-21/28  “O woman of great faith” ignored, called a dog, she persisted in her request.

A DAUGHTER OF ISRAEL: Matt.9-20-22: “If I may touch but the hem of his garment”.  Let us touch & be  made whole.

There were other women in the N.T. who ministered to JESUS and followed with His disciples; Paul & John spoke well of  them, but the above must suffice.  “Many daughters have done virtuously , but thou excellest them all”  Prov.31-  29.

So many unnamed, but rest assured you are well known in Heaven, from whence will come your rewards.

This is such a large subject, one needs to meditate on all the Scriptures given to receive the Blessings therefrom.

May all GOD’S Daughters be Blessed, comforted, encouraged and strengthened in your labours for Him.  Amen
