It cannot be stressed too highly that the “Fear of the LORD” is the Beginning of WISDOM, and it is essential that we should never lose our sense of the awesome POWER, MAJESTY AND GLORY of our OMNIPOTENT, OMNISCIENT & OMNIPRESENT GOD, FATHER, SON & HOLY SPIRIT, as we enter into the realm of Divine Spiritual Knowledge imparted to us by the Comforting Holy Spirit given by the Father to lead and guide us into all the Truth so that we may keep His Word, know His Ways, and Walk in His Will.
This is distinct from merely mental knowledge by those who reject the Spirit of GOD, and thus fall into all sorts of errors, theories, deceptions of the enemy, who is the source of all “New Age” teachings, liberalism, spiritualism and every conceivable form of uncleanness, sodomy, greed, lust and evil. This does not decry but fully appreciates all the good work of true scientific knowledge that brings genuine blessing to mankind, as he uses the power of the human brain so marvellously designed and created by GOD.
The following Scriptures show us some of the ways by which we gain Wisdom. In the O.T.
1. True Wisdom comes from GOD; in Ex. 28-3, concerning the making of the priests garments, Moses was to choose
“all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of Wisdom”. Ex. 31-6 & 35-25, men and women. As GOD’S children we all have certain talents which we can use for His Glory.
2. Deut.4-1/ 6 By keeping the statutes & judgments of the Law, the Ch. of Israel would gain Wisdom & prosper. We grow in Wisdom by heeding GOD’S Word and walking in His Ways.
3. Job 28-12/23 Man cannot obtain Wisdom by searching or with gold; GOD understands and knows its place. Man with all his carnal and scientific knowledge cannot find Divine Wisdom, & knows not the mysteries of creation, hence his lying doctrines of evolution & the “big bang” origin of the Universe, which an anti-God world accepts as truth.
4. Ps.19-7/10 Wisdom comes by the law, testimony, statutes, commandment, fear & judgments of the LORD.
Prov.2-1/6 lists 8 things to pursue “to understand the fear of the LORD and find the Knowledge of GOD”.
5. Prov.1-1/7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of Wisdom, and Happy is the man that findeth Wisdom, ch.3/13.
6 Ch.9 says “Wisdom hath hewn out her 7 Pillars “ of great Blessings.
in v1, a Home; a house hewn out of the Rock that will never fall.
v2 a Feast; a Table prepared with good food and wine, in the presence of our enemies.
v3/4 Missionary activity and witness; maidens crying to the simple to make them wise unto Salvation.
v4/6 The way of Understanding by eating of the Bread and drinking of the Wine of Wisdom.
v7/9 A Wise Heart knowing when to give Instruction &True Counsel;
v10a, The Fear of the LORD is its foundation as in Prov.1-7 above.
v10b the Knowledge of the Most Holy. If we build our house on these 7 Pillars, we will have “A sure
Scriptural foundation” . There are many other ref’s in Proverbs, such as ch.4-7/10, 8-1/6. .
7. 1 Kings 3-7/13 GOD was pleased when the young Solomon asked for Wisdom, He got it & riches as well.
8. Eccles. 8-1 & 9-13/18 Wisdom is better than force, but don’t be downhearted if it is not appreciated.
In the New Testament, this side of the Cross, we are so much more Blessed, since the Holy Spirit has been given, the Comforter, and He is the One sent to lead us into all the Truth and to shed abroad the Love of GOD in our hearts.
- John 14-16/17, v26. The Comforter, the Spirit of Truth is given and He will teach us all things.
- Rom. 11-33 Oh the depth of the riches both of the Wisdom and Knowledge of GOD! How unsearchable are His Judgments and His Ways past finding out! What a Treasure GOD sets before us!
- 1 Cor.1-30 We are Blessed, for Christ is made unto us Wisdom & Righteousness & Sanctification & Redemption.
- Col.2-2/3 The mystery of GOD and CHRIST, in whom are hid all the treasures of Wisdom and Knowledge.
- Eph.1-17 & Jas.1-5; So let us ask of GOD for Wisdom, as Paul prayed for the Ephesians & as James exhorts us.
- Eph.3-10 It is GOD’S Ultimate Purpose that the Church should be the vehicle of expression of the Manifold Wisdom of GOD to the principalities and powers in the Heavenlies. .- The Glory of our high calling in Christ.
- 1 Cor.12-8 One of the 9 Gifts of the Holy Spirit is a Word of Wisdom; knowledge revealed to meet a special need.
- Jas.3-15/18 Earthly wisdom is sensual and divisive, but Heavenly Wisdom is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocracy; and the fruit of righteousness is sewn in peace of them that make peace.
- Rev.5 -12 & 7-12; Let us join with the Angels of Heaven and sing “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive Power, and Riches, and Wisdom, and Strength, and Honour, and Glory, and Blessing”.
& Let us earnestly with all our heart and soul seek after the Wisdom of GOD that brings such great Riches.
