7 NAMES OF GOD – Study 4 (-NISSI)
JEHOVAH-NISSI – THE LORD OUR BANNER! Exodus 17-14/16. The Banner or Flag of a Nation is it’s proud symbol, flown from all Government Buildings; and denoting immunity when flown from Embassies in foreign countries.
GOD is our Banner, it carries all the authority of our Covenant Keeping GOD, including every promise from His 1st promise to Eve that her seed should bruise the Serpent’s head, all the Covenants made with Noah, Abraham, Isaac & Jacob, & all the prophets through to the 1st and 2nd Coming of our Blessed Lord & Saviour, JESUS CHRIST! ,
Every Word of which will be fulfilled. We should be proud to carry our Banner and uphold the message of the Cross, the only means by which the world can be saved, John 3-16, knowing that GOD stands back of HIS WORD, and we must speak up and raise our Banner against all the evils which are besetting the World today, lest GOD rebuke us for “hiding our light under a bushel”.
The Children of Israel had 4 Banners, each representing 3 tribes, who surrounded the Tabernacle on 4 sides; the Banner of Judah, on the East, showed a Lion; Ephraim on the west, an Ox; Reuben on the South, a Man; and
Dan on the North, an Eagle. We see these four faces again on the Cherubim, in Ezekiel ch.1-5/6 & 10-14,.
The 4 Gospels also depict Christ with 4 faces; Matthew as the King, with so much about the Kingdom of Heaven,
“the face of a Lion”; Mark depicts JESUS as the servant, “the face of an Ox”; Luke as the Son of Man, “the face of a Man”; and John as the son of GOD, “the face of an eagle”. ( ch..14 /17),
In Rev. 4 & 5 are 4 “Living Creatures with these same 4 faces; they represent the highest of the redeemed, :in and around the Throne of GOD, singing the song of salvation, Rev. 5-9/10 KJV and Phil.3-14/15.
Ex.17-8/16 describes the invasion of the land of Israel by the Amalekites; when they attacked Israel, Moses went up on a mount and held up the Rod of GOD, aided by Aaron and Hur, and as long as Moses arms were held up, Israel prevailed over their enemies. This shows how we should uphold our leaders and one another in prayer, in order that we might get the victory over our enemies, who sometimes can be of our own household, Matt.10-35/36, as we recently experienced.(in our local church). Nevertheless let us keep our hearts pure and not harbour resentment, but forgive, even as our Father has forgiven us. We are not commanded to slay the Amalakites as in O.T. times, as David did after their attack on Ziglag, in 1 Sam. 31.
The Amalekites were actually relatives of the Israelites, descended from Esau, Gen.36-15/16, and from Abraham and Isaac. The greatest threat to Christians today comes from the Muslim religion which calls us in the Koran “People of the Book”; this does not defer them from their goal of compelling all “infidels” (anyone who is not a Muslim) to either become a Muslim, submit to their Sharia law, or be killed. The World is deceived when it says “it is not the Muslims” only the terrorists who mass kill men, women and children in order to set up an Islamic state, but they are the real Muslims, who claim to be fulfilling the Koran, whilst the vast majority of so called “peace loving” Muslims are ignorant of the real teaching of the Koran, which is only authentic when read in Arabic, but whenever the “orthodox” Muslims get in power they will have to join in the killing or be killed.
To haul down one’s Flag I the midst of a battle, on ship or land, indicates Surrender!
Today, unfortunately, the once great Christian countries of old, have largely hauled down the Banner of CHRIST, and are surrendering to the seductions of the Devil, e.g. the once unlawful practice of sodomy is now being legalised under the name of “marriage equality”; how damnable is this which GOD calls an abomination, Lev. 20-13. Likewise the taking of the life of innocent unborn babies, now in USA up to time of birth, which happens by the million, world wide every year, (all the more blameworthy when contraceptives are so freely available) is surely a token of the coming judgmental wrath of GOD; (there may be extreme cases where abortion could be justified, probably less than 0.1%). As our nation continues on this downward path to Sodom and Gomorrah, what will the next step be? Legalising bigamy, trigamy, nudity, compulsory school attendance at vulgar monthly Mardi Gra’s? Governments and people are rejecting Christian teaching and values, banning prayers and Bibles from schools and hospitals, and are calling good, evil, and evil, good, thus preparing the way for the Antichrist and the Day of Judgment! Read Rev. 6-12/17 when nations will seek to hide from the great Day of GOD’s wrath !
Ps.2-1/6 speaks of this awful rebellion which will bring forth the derisive laughter and judgment of GOD Let us, who are of the Day rejoice, let us shine for JESUS, and in watchfulness and prayer, “let us look up, and lift up our heads, for our redemption draweth nigh”. Luke 21-v26 & 38.

7 NAMES OF GOD – Study 5 (-TSIDKENU)
JEHOVAH-TSIDKENU-THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS: Jer.23-6. This O.T. prophecy concerns the coming of JESUS, son of David, as a King who would reign and prosper, and covers His earthly and heavenly ministry, as the Righteous Branch, to bring in righteousness and salvation for all those who put their trust in Him, and secondly in the setting up on Earth of His Kingdom in the MillenniaL Age. GOD hath made Him to be sin for us, (who knew no sin) that we might be made the righteousness of GOD in Him. 2 Corin.5-21. It is abundantly clear that we cannot get to Heaven by our own efforts, apart from the LORD JESUS CHRIST; as it says in Isa.64-6, “all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” (in GOD’S sight). We are totally dependant on GOD’S Grace for our uttermost salvation and we need to thank and praise Him each day for His wondrous goodness to us. What a transformation it brings, from being Hell-deserving sinners to being made as Righteous as GOD is! Can we grasp the immensity of it? To be righteous is to be upright, virtuous, just, equitable, in other words to be completely honest and trustworthy; this is what our GOD is¸ and that’s how He wants us to be.
The following are some scriptures about Righteousness.
Ps.11-7 The Righteous LORD loveth Righteousness, His countenance doth behold the upright!
Ps.37-29 The Righteous shall inherit the land and dwell therein for ever.
Ps.37-39 The Salvation of the Righteous is of the LORD; He is their strength in the time of trouble.
Ps.85-10 Mercy and Truth are met together; Righteousness and Peace have kissed each other.
Ps.45-3/4 Gird Thy sword upon Thy thigh O Most Mighty, with Thy Glory and Thy Majesty, and in Thy Majesty ride prosperously because of Truth & Meekness & Righteousness! v-6/7 Thy Throne, O GOD, is for ever and ever; the Sceptre of Thy Kingdom is a Right Sceptre. Thou lovest Righteousness and hatest wickedness, therefore GOD, Thy GOD, hath anointed Thee with the oil of gladness above Thy fellows.
The Sceptre is the symbol of a King’s authority; how great it is that our GOD’s Sceptre is Righteousness!
This scripture is repeated in the New Testament, Heb. 1-8/9, indicating its importance.
Ps.97-2 Clouds & darkness are round about Him, Righteousness and Judgment are the habitation of His Throne
v.11, Light is sown for the Righteous & gladness for the upright in heart..
Ps.15-1/2 LORD who shall dwell in Thy Tabernacle or dwell in Thy holy hill? He that worketh Rightousness!
Here we see the Blessings of the Righteous and how GOD works by it, even in Judgment.
There are many other ref’s. in the Psalms, of the Blessings of the Righteous.
On this side of the Cross of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, our Righteousness is given to us freely by the Grace of GOD through Faith, and that not of ourselves, it is the Gift of GOD Eph.2-8. But of Him are ye in CHRIST JESUS, who of GOD is made unto us Wisdom, and Righteousness, and Sanctification and Redemption, that according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the LORD, 1 Corin. 1-30/31.
Rom.3-21/26. The Righteousness of GOD without the Law is manifested,- which is by Faith.
Heb.11-6 “without Faith it is impossible to please GOD”. We see that GOD’s Grace and our Faith work together.
2 Cor.5-21 GOD hath made Him (Christ) to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of GOD in Him.
Rom.5-17 They which receive of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by One, JESUS CHRIST.
Eph. 5-9 The fruit of the Spirit is in all Goodness and Righteousness and Truth.
2 Pet.3-13 GOD’S Promise of New Heavens and a New Earth wherein Righteousness shall dwell for ever ! There shall in no wise enter into It anything that defileth, but they that are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life Rev.21-27
1 John-3-1 Now are we the sons of GOD, called “to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in Heaven for you, who are kept by the power of GOD through Faith. 1 Pet.1-3/4
This is the goal set before us so, like Paul, let us press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of GOD in CHRIST JESUS, Phil.3-14, knowing that we are utterly dependant on the Grace and Goodness of our GOD, and shunning and putting away all self-dependance in thought or deed.
Be not as “the ungodly, who are like the chaff which the wind driveth away, Ps.1-4, for as the Scripture says in Isa.64-6 “all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags”. Many in the world think that by living a good life they will be counted worthy, but without having our sins washed away by the Precious Blood of JESUS, there is no salvation.
Therefore it is our duty to witness as often as we can to all those who are in need of salvation .and to pray for them. May we be diligent in doing so.

7 NAMES OF GOD – Study 6 (-SHAMMAR)
JEHOVAH-SHAMMAR “The LORD is there!”. This statement, Ezek. 48-35, while including GOD’S Holy City Zion, encompasses the whole of the Universe, as there is no place where GOD is not. The Universe is so vast that there are galaxies so distant that there light, travelling at 300,000 k/second, takes billions of years to reach us. As David in Psalm 139-7/11 proclaims, “Whither shall I go from Thy Spirit – neither Heaven nor Hell, nor the uttermost part of the sea, nor darkness itself can hide one from Thee”; GOD’S love will find us, even in our darkest hour. It’s good to know that this Almighty Omnipotent GOD, who created the Heaven and the Earth, Gen.1-1, is also “Our (very) Own GOD” Ps.67-6/7 and as our Loving Father will care for and Bless us!, so we need not fear.
Neh.9-6 “Thou LORD hast created Heaven, the Heaven of Heavens, with all their host, the Earth and all things that are therein, the seas and all that is therein, and Thou preserveth them all, and the host of Heaven worshippeth Thee”. Paul also in Acts 14-15/17-24 proclaims this to the Greeks In Athens.
Ps.102-25 Of old hast Thou laid the foundations of the Earth, and the Heaven are the work of Thine Hands.
1 Kings 8-27 At the dedication of the Temple, Solomon said “but will GOD indeed dwell on the Earth? behold the Heaven & heaven of Heavens cannot contain Thee”; how much less this house that I have built.
GOD has complete control over the Universe, as it is written, Heb. 1-10/12; He who created the Universe has power to change it and bring in “a new Heavens and a new Earth”, Rev.21-1, as He will after the Millennium.
When Job made his complaint to GOD, Job 38-1/11, GOD asked “who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowedge?” and proceeded to ask questions that no man answer. Unfortunately there are many who try and explain them by false theories of Evolution and the “Big Bang” origin of the Universe, but being “sub-spiritual”, they cannot understand or explain the mighty power of GOD.. They know the Universe is filled with some force they cannot explain, so they call it “dark matter”; likewise they thought gravity would cause the Universe to return to a “singularity”, but found something was preventing it, so they called it “dark energy”. It is electro-magnetism that binds the atoms together, which they cannot explain, but admit that without it the Universe could not exist. Neither can they explain who or what keeps every human heart beating for life.
Isa. 40-21/22, 25/28. Have ye not known? – It is He that sitteth upon the circle of the Earth — that stretcheth out the Heavens as a curtain, and as a tent to dwell in; that bringeth the princes (of the world) to nothing. To whom will ye liken Me or shall I be equal saith the Holy One?
The vastness of the Universe is perhaps the most difficult thing for our minds to grasp, that some galaxies are billions of light years away, and there are trillions of stars in the Universe, yet it seems that their life is in limbo, waiting to be remoulded into a New Heaven and a New Earth that GOD has planned for us; a wonderful place of Glory, Beauty and Love for us to enjoy throughout all Eternity. What a Wonderful GOD we serve !
Rom. 11-33/36. O the depth of the riches both of the Wisdom and Knowledge of GOD: how unsearchable are His judgments, and His Ways past finding out !
Jer.31-3 Yea I have loved you with an everlasting Love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn thee.
Let us draw near to Him in loving humility, worship and obedience, that we may enjoy His Love for ever.

7 NAMES OF GOD – Study 7 (-SHALOM)
JEHOVAH-SHALOM – THE LORD SEND PEACE
The greatest events of all time are about to take place. GOD has allotted a time for everything, including the Day of Salvation, the Day of Judgment and Vengeance of our GOD, the 1000 year Glory Age between the 1st and 2nd Resurrections, Rev.20, and then GOD’S Kingdom of Love, Holiness, Joy and Peace, will finally introduce the ages of the ages, where there is no more sin. GOD himself will dwell amongst us and we will be HIS people and HE will be our GOD !! Peace is a very elusive state in this world; everywhere today there is strife, murder and warfare, because people do not have the Peace of GOD in their hearts. Isa. 48-22 “There is no peace, saith the LORD unto the wicked.”
The first & only mention of this name is in Judges. 6-24 when Gideon, after the Angel appeared unto him, built an Altar to the LORD and called it “JEHOVAH-SHALOM, “the LORD send Peace”. He then went on to defeat the hosts of the Midianites with just 300 men and brought Peace to Israel for 40 years. Eccles.3-8 says “There is a time of war, and a time of Peace”. How great it is when war ends and Peace comes; I remember when the war in Europe ended on VE day in 1945; what jubilation and celebrations took place, while work in the aircraft factory where I worked ceased for the day.
This is a small picture of the glorious time that is ahead for us, but in the meantime we need, as the Psalmist says, Ps.34-14, to depart from evil, and do good; seek Peace and pursue it. It is worth having.
Phil. 4-7 The Peace of GOD , which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through CHRIST JESUS. This word “keep” is from the Greek meaning “a tower, a stronghold, a fortress” (like the Tower of London) How important is Peace to maintaining a balanced, loving and right attitude to all. This scripture is followed by an exhortation, v.8, to think on all things “beautiful” .
How often do the apostles in their epistles start or finish with the Blessings of Grace, Mercy and Peace.
e.g. in Rom.15-33, 2 Cor.13-11, Col.1-2, and 2 Pet.1/2 “Grace & Peace be multiplied unto you”.
Our LORD JESUS said “Peace I leave with you, My Peace I give unto you” John 14-27
Eph. 2-14 “For Christ is our Peace Who hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us”.
In Moses time the Aaronic Blessing, Num.6-24/26, ends with Peace.
Ps.4-8 I will lay me down and sleep in Peace. Ps.85-8 GOD will speak Peace to His people.
Ps.119-165 Great Peace have they that love Thy law.. Isa.9-6 Peace is one of GOD’S Names.
Isa.26-3 Thou wilt keep him in Perfect Peace whose mind is stayed on Thee.
In the N.T., Eph. 4-3, “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bonds of Peace.”
Rom.5-1 Therefore being justified by Faith, we have Peace with GOD, through our LORD JESUS CHRIST.
Rom. 16-20 The GOD of Peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. It is good to be able to look forward to this time of Peace that is coming. The GOD of Love and Peace shall be with you. 2 Cor. 11.
1 Thess. 5-23 “And the very GOD of Peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray GOD your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.”
Heb.13-20/21 “Now the GOD of Peace, that brought again from the dead our LORD JESUS, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the Blood of the Everlasting Covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do His Will, working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight, through JESUS CHRIST, to whom be Glory for ever and ever.
How precious are some of those great old hymns like “When Peace like a river attendeth my way”, and “Peace, perfect Peace, in this dark world of sin, the Blood of JESUS whispers Peace within”.
Joseph told Pharaoh that GOD would give him an answer of Peace, Gen.41-16
“Shalom” meaning Peace, is the national greeting in Israel. In Arabic lands it is “Salaam”.
Let us also greet one another with the Grace of Peace and Love and remember that, when the end time comes upon us, we are to “ look up, and lift up our heads, for our Redemption draweth nigh. Luke 21=28. This is our comfort, our reassurance, that GOD, Who is our Peace, is on our side.
