Setting for the “7 Thunders”

Let us look at the importance of this great event; it comes right in the middle of the book of Revelation and is preceded by some of the greatest of GOD’S judgments, and exhorts us to read, hear & keep what is written.

In chaps.1-3 we have portrayed our LORD in His Heavenly splendor dealing with the 7 Churches, representative of the whole Church, with rebukes, exhortations and promises.

In chaps.4-5 we see the Glory of the Heavenly Throne Administration, the Lamb by right of conquest taking the 7 sealed book of man’s forfeited inheritance to restore it to all who accept and believe in Him, and the song of the “first fruits”, pictured by the 4 Living Creatures and the 24 Elders, who have already received their rewards, (ch.5-8/9),.

In chaps. 6-9 the seven seals are opened, 4 horsemen ride forth in judgment, a great multitude is gathered out of the Great Tribulation who wash their robes and make them white in the blood of the Lamb, 144,000 of the tribes of Israel are gathered out, the order of their names conveying their special mission. as follows:- Seiss “Apocalypse” p.163 “Confessors or praisers of GOD, looking upon the Son, a band of blessed ones, wrestling with forgetfulness, hearing and obeying the Word, cleaving unto the reward of a shelter and home, an addition, sons of the day of GOD’S right hand, begotten in the extremity of the age”. There are great convulsions in the Earth and half of the World’s population is destroyed at this time. When the 7th seal is opened at the beginning of chap.8, there is an awesome pause in the proceedings, a deadly silence for about half an hour, as though the whole Universe is watching with intense interest and wonder at what is going to happen next. After all it is “the great and terrible Day of the LORD”.

In Rev. ch.10; we see a Mighty Angel whose description can fit no other than the LORD JESUS CHRIST Himself; He comes down to Earth and stakes His possession of it; He roars as the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and the roar reverberates as 7 Thunders from Heaven. What are these 7 Thunders ? They were sealed up, but I take this the same as the message given to Daniel (ch.12- 4/9) where the words were closed up and sealed “till the time of the end”, and I believe we are now in that time.
